Best Cat Breeds for Children

Having pets around your children can be helpful to them growing up. It improves their sense of responsibility and their social skills, as well. However, parents can be worried that pets might harm their children physically. Cats, in particular, are known for being moody and are prone to scratching people.

What cat breeds are best for children? Here
are some as suggested by PetMD.com.

Birman

The Birman is smart and
very receptive. It is known as a cat breed that loves to love. It is very
gentle and obedient that you may even be able to get it to walk with a leash if
you start training it early enough. It also doesn’t run off and hide when
guests visit your place. The Birman is a very sociable breed. However, it is
not for active children who want to play games with their pet.

Ragdoll

The Ragdoll got its name because of this: When picked up, this cat breed goes limp, like a ragdoll. This breed is soft-voiced and gentle and enjoys attention without demanding it. It is good for children who wish to have a pet to bond with while studying.

Himalayan

This breed is more active than a Persian and quieter than a Siamese.  It takes well to indoor life and gives and receives affection in equal turns. This is a cat that kids can easily love and bond with.

Maine Coon

One of the most beloved
family cats is the Maine Coon. This breed is patient with active children and
is calm and quiet. Maine Coons are one of the oldest companion cats around and
have had generations of experience in living with families.

Exotic Shorthair

The Exotic Shorthair has an easy-going, laid back personality of a Persian, but without the aloofness and grooming demands of the Persian. They are very gentle creatures with a soothing presence. All it requires is a little bit of playtime each evening and a warm lap and soft caresses.
